Job Description:

A Certified Professional Coder Professional (CPC) is responsible for making sure codes are assigned correctly and sequenced appropriately as per government and insurance regulations by the team, complying with medical coding guidelines and policies, following up and clarifying any information that is not clear with physician and other staff members, and collecting information from different sources to prepare monthly reports. Also, implementing strategic procedures and choosing strategies and evaluation methods that provide correct results, coordinating resolution of PAR/Medicare biller questions regarding specific accounts and assisting director with physician education and internal coding audit.

Job Accountabilities

  • Oversight of certified coders and coding assistants.  Willingness to assume responsibility for coding assignments to meet month end standards or as the need arises. 
  • Position requires frequent contact with physicians from many specialties. Provide physician education by developing presentations and handout materials, as well as presenting the information to the physicians in alignment with Compliance standards.
  • Resolution of billing issues presented by CBO (PARs & Medicare Biller).  Entails research in the medical records (SCM, SRM, SIS, RIS, ARIA, Dr Gui, etc), batch reports, and billing software, as well as interactions with coding consultants, providers, Compliance and coders.
  • Prepares and presents stakeholder reviews and disciplinary write ups. Delegation of non-coding activities/data entry to coding assistants. 
  • Review of monthly physician revenue.  Capable of planning and conducting internal audits and able to present findings in an educational atmosphere.
  • Ability to lead physician coding group in daily activities and assume additional responsibility in the absence of the director.  Self motivated individual who seeks opportunities to increase knowledge of team.

Education/Experience Level

  • Minimum of 5 years multi-specialty professional fee coding experience with at least 2 years demonstrated supervisory ability preferred. 
  • Coding certification required (CPC or CCS-P preferred). 
  • Minimum 1 year experience in AR Management or medical billing.  Audit experience preferred.
  • Bachelor degree desirable.
