JOB OVERVIEW:  The purpose of this role is to lead and establish enterprise enterprise-wide content and creative strategy, leveraging audience insights to create a seamless content and communications experience, resulting in the achievement of growth and reputation business objectives. The Director, Marketing leads an internal Creative Services team that generates tangible creative and content solutions and serves as the enterprise creative and content hub. The Director, Marketing must have a proven ability to inspire internal teams and external agencies to develop breakthrough content and creative, with high-level competency in spearheading multi-channel integrated campaigns. In addition, the Director, Marketing must be a highly-skilled, proven creative strategist with a true instinct for effective communications and design, with well-honed intangible creative skills.

  • Leads enterprise-wide content and creative strategy.
  • Leads the creation of national and regional fully integrated advertising campaigns, ensuring all campaigns are connected to business needs and audience insights.
  • Owns relationships with external creative agency partners, providing strategic direction and leading workflow of all creative initiatives.
  • Ensures content and creative is seamlessly integrated across all channels and partners with Digital and Media teams to leverage creative to drive performance.
  • Provides overall brand communications leadership and strategic guidance in key initiatives across the organization.
  • Leads and manages the internal Creative Services team: recruiting talent, onboarding, development, mentoring, workload prioritization and delegation, etc.

Content and Creative Strategy & Production

  • Establishes enterprise-wide content and creative strategy, aligning audience insights with business objectives. Provides overall thought leadership as it relates the creation of breakthrough creative and compelling content.
  • Directs a team of writers, producers / video editors and designers to develop written, video and graphic/visual content for CTCA web properties and other marketing communications / collateral. Ensures content aligns with overall business strategy and audience needs, drives performance and positions CTCA as a leading cancer treatment provider. “Connects the dots” between all teams to ensure seamless and cohesive communications across channels.
  • Leads the strategy, development and production of all national and regional fully integrated advertising campaigns across channels, including creative for TV, print, display & pre-roll (digital), website, radio, out-of-home, etc.
  • Collaborates with regional Growth teams to understand their unique challenges and opportunities, local market nuances and overall content and creative needs. Leads the creation of all regional creative and content, working with regions as internal “clients” to produce the work.
  • Collaborates with Growth Leadership Team members (VPs of Growth, Media &  Analytics, Empowerment, Public Affairs and Regional Growth teams) to develop annual creative plans that serve all key audiences, CTCA web properties, social media, online and offline advertising media, other marketing communications / collateral and regional creative needs.
  • Partners with Digital and Media teams to ensure creative and media strategies are aligned and optimized to drive performance and build brand reputation.
  • Stays current on emerging creative and content trends. Recommends and tests new and innovative content & creative ideas to better resonate with key audiences, strengthen the CTCA brand and achieve business objectives.
  • Oversees the process of curating relevant content to inform strategic communications initiatives. Forges strong relationships with clinical and operational subject matter experts, as well as regional Growth team members to continuously gather information and understand key topics that warrant content creation.

Agency Management

  • Owns and builds strong relationships with external creative agency partners, providing strategic direction and overall creative thought leadership. Inspires agencies to continually generate more compelling, breakthrough creative that will resonate with our key audiences and achieve business objectives.
  • Oversees Integrated Campaigns team that directs day-to-day leadership on project workflow and execution.
  • Manages multi-million dollar creative/production budget. Serves as the lead in managing retainer agreements – monitors progress throughout the year and identifies opportunities for amendments based on evolution of strategy and objectives.
  • Leads selection processes for agency partners in various areas of creative services. Identifies opportunities for new assignments to better leverage expertise of external partners and achieve business objectives.

Brand Communications Standards Ownership & Leadership

  • Provides overall brand communications leadership and strategic guidance in key initiatives across the organization.
  • Oversees the ongoing evolution of the Brand Communication Standards to ensure brand growth, consistent use of brand assets, stakeholder education and value provided by the CTCA Brand Communication Standards.
  • Serves as the subject matter expert in all matters related to the CTCA brand and provides ongoing leadership and consultation to internal stakeholders and external partners.

Talent Development

  • Builds, develops and manages a team of writers, producers / video editors, advertising/campaign specialists and designers to handle day-to-day workload of creative and content initiatives.
  • Provides leadership, strategic direction and day-to-day project guidance and feedback.
  • Offers internal and external opportunities for growth, and exposes the team members to new, challenging projects that will expand their expertise and build their contribution to CTCA and the Growth team.
  • Ensures the development of direct reports with written performance reports, development plans, and ongoing development discussions/activities to grow professional capabilities, personal and leadership qualities among all direct reports.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Proven ability to inspire internal teams and external agencies to develop breakthrough content and creative, with high-level competency in spearheading multi-channel integrated campaigns.
  • Must be a proven creative strategist with a true instinct for design and well-honed intangible creative skills, i.e. creative strategy and thought leadership, agency briefings, creative evaluation. Deep knowledge and proven competency in all phases of the creative development and production processes.
  • Must have experience working in agency environment – Account Management experience preferred.
  • Must have knowledge of leading-edge research techniques, with an ability to understand / analyze audience insights, and leverage those insights to inform content and creative strategy.
  • Must have ability to clearly articulate POV and influence senior leadership and colleagues to align on creative and content decisions.
  • Must have proven success and masterful skills in orchestrating cross-functional teams, aligning objectives and workflows, and ensuring seamless integration across teams, channels and creative.
  • Must be current on emerging creative and content trends, with a desire to continuously explore new and innovative ways to resonate with CTCA key audiences.
  • Must have knowledge of and experience with current media trends and media strategy (both digital and offline).
  • Must have superior communications skills, including writing, editing, verbal and presentation skills.
  • Must be a proven leader, with experience managing, coaching and developing multiple direct reports. Must embody a ‘servant leadership’ mindset, enriching the professional lives of team members, focusing on their development and carrying on a culture of collaboration, respect and transparency.  
  • Strong management, organizational and project management skills with demonstrated and excellent attention to detail.  Must have successful track record of managing detail-oriented work under tight deadlines and within budget.
  • Proven ability to work in fast-paced and highly collaborative team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, teach, train and manage across-organizational; multi-functional teams/departments.
