Job Description:

Director, Business Intelligence & Accessibility is responsible for overseeing the team that delivers intuitive and accessible insights to various consumers across CTCA hospitals, clinics, and affiliates.

The Director will administer core business intelligence technology, associated infrastructure, and maintain a secure and compliant environment. This includes managing vendors, user environments, and supervision over deployed BI assets. Collaborating with the appropriate partners to support access, stability, and "up-time" of data pipelines and visualizations. The leader will build deep relationships with CTCA corporate, site, and clinical teams to act as a sensing function for repeatable visualizations, heuristics, data triggers, and metrics. In this capacity they will conduct initial requirements gathering, prototyping, and data modeling to iterate designs with end users and collaborate with others in IS to help close any data, logic, or system integration gaps that underpin those designs.

Additionally, the successful candidate will apply user centered design to create a succinct set of BI assets for key business areas across their critical data user journeys to help reinforce key objectives, metrics, and organizational behavior in an intuitive and accessible manner. Collaborating with analysts, enterprise analytics, and other members of the "data" community to surface useful perspectives that can be incorporated, deployed, and maintained. Observe and monitor consumption of deployed assets to deprecate those no longer used and engage/expand in areas that have the greatest business interest. Additionally work with the data services team to help remove out-moded consumption and drive new/emerging logic in to the data layer.     

Continuous learner, responsible for staying abreast of the newest techniques and tools that can be brought to bear against a wide variety of tasks (e.g., BI, UX, UI, d.Thinking, Agile, etc.) Develops enterprise eminence through continuous improvement opportunities promoting human factor engineering as well as dissemination of best practices across IS on how to create better user<>data/intelligence interactions. As well as develop and foster an environment that stimulates innovation and creativity across teams and business partners.

Job Accountabilities

25% Develop strong relationship with CTCA Health and Hospitals and Clinics Leadership to:

  • Establish succinct set of BI assets that align to and drive accountability of the organizational strategy

  • Facilitate requirements gathering, prototyping and data needed for BI solutions to support the strategy

  • Prioritize projects in alignment with divisional strategic objectives and deprecate assets no longer needed

35% Develop and deliver BI infrastructure and manage associated architecture(s) for discoverability and accessibility of business intelligence.

  • Data harmonization, visualization, and logic for low latency consumption

  • Overall infrastructure architecture and monitoring

  • Define and manage a standardized design that supports user engagement, removes cognitive load and friction associated to completing inquiry of critical business measures

25% Gap Identification and closure

  • Identify and define new logic that emerges from BI prototypes and collaborate with the data services team on the best way to "land" it in the data layer

  • Continuously monitor user behavior to support evolving needs and trends

  • Work with other IT leaders on pipelines and integrations required to close any data gaps required to support end user visualizations and consumption needs

  • Min the use of BI layer for "connecting" live system data and maintain a secure environment

15% Become a trusted BI advisor and producer of talent

  • Create pull for self and team for design and development conversations related to human factors for leveraging information contained within systems, as well as techniques for quickly/iteratively designing and verifying enabling designs

  • Foster an environment of creativity and innovation by mentoring CTCA stakeholders to help increase the data quotient of the enterprise

Education/ Experience Level

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Technology, Design, or related experience is required

  • Experience in human centered design, application development, and / or business intelligence preferred

  • Experience managing remote employees is preferred

  • IT experience within a multi-facility organization is preferred

  • Master’s Degree is preferred

Knowledge and Skills

  • Executive presence, excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Demonstrated leadership including previous performance as a highly effective team member and team leader

  • Team building and mentoring skills, focused on promoting improved communication, documentation, technical skills, and interpersonal skills

  • Possesses a strong business perspective to convey technology concepts and solutions that will satisfy the business requirements

  • Promotes solutions that are cost conscious, while being technically sound and supporting business requirements

  • Ability to map real-life business practices to applications

  • Demonstrated experience holding a vendor accountable for SLA’s/metrics

  • Data Warehouse experience, from technical and user standpoints

  • Can conform to shifting priorities, demands and timelines through analytical and problem solving capabilities
