Job Description:

The Category Manager reports to the AVP - Clinical Operations and Analytics. This individual will be responsible for executing a comprehensive category management plan to deliver the highest value through total cost ownership. The Category Manager will be responsible for collaborating with the AVP to evaluate, align and manage the priorities for respective categories. This individual is responsible for leading procurement sourcing activities in their assigned categories. This individual will provide support for both strategic direction and tactical implementation of multiple categories.

Job Responsibilities

  • Review contracts for compliance with approved terms and conditions and negotiate competitive rates based on industry benchmarking and vendor responses - use Ariba application throughout the process
  • Work with subject matter experts to create relevant RFPs and launch to market. Analyze responses and formulate recommendations based on findings - use Bonfire application throughout the process
  • Identify and make recommendations for categories to pursue that can yield cost savings, utilization improvement and increase revenue - model out various scenarios using data analytics and presentations to convey message, gain buy-in and formulate implementation plans.
  • Monitor existing contracts for performance and conduct business reviews with key vendors and work with vendors that are not performing per contract - report out on savings and other key strategies

Skills, Education and Additional Information

  • Please list required education, certification and skills needed to perform this job and any additional information that was not covered above:
  • Degree required in business, finance or administration - Masters a plus
  • 5-10 years experience in category management
  • Healthcare experience a plus with experience modeling out employed or contracted labor
  • Efficient in working through contracts but with an attention to detail and the ability to ask for insight and explanations on terms that are unclear or confusing
  • Experience in strategic sourcing and an ability to grasp the key concepts unique to each contract or category
  • Ability to work quickly in Excel with large data sets
  • Understanding of key reimbursement and insurance concepts
  • Experience in working with CPTs, RVU’s, FMV and the ability to understand the impact or productivity and utilization in a variety of contracts
  • Experience and familiarity with clinical service lines and working with stakeholders of a clinical mindset
  • Teamwork a key prerequisite and being able to collaboratively work with multiple departments and competing priorities.
